Who won 2018 FIFA World Cup?

After winning the FIFA World Cup on home soil in 1998, France lifted the World Cup for only the second time 20 years later in 2018. The 21st edition of the tournament was held in Russia from June 14, 2018, with the final between France and Croatia played on July 15, 2018.

France topped Group C after they followed up their wins against Australia and Peru with a draw against Denmark. They took on 2014 finalists Argentina in the Round of 16 and came out on top of a 4-3 thriller to progress to the quarters.

They didn’t let a goal past them in the quarter-final and the semi-final as they defeated Uruguay and Belgium 2-0 and 1-0 respectively. In the final against Croatia that was played in Moscow, France won 4-2.

Honours and Awards

Losing semi-finalists England and Belgium produced the top goalscorer and the goalkeeper with the cleanest sheets.

Harry Kane (six goals) and Thibaut Courtois took the Golden Boot and Golden Glove awards respectively.

Croatia’s Luka Modric deservedly took the Golden Ball as the best player of the tournament. France’s Kylian Mbappe got the Best Young Player award.
