When did Toyota become the world’s largest automobile manufacturer?

In 2008, a Japanese company made history by becoming the leading automobile manufacturer the world. Toyota Motor Corporation rose to this glorified position because of the hard labour and dedication of several decades beginning in 1933.

Sakichi Toyoda’s first invention came out when he was 24, the Toyoda wooden handloom. He later invented a power loom with better efficiency. He turned to automobile business later that grew to the Toyota Motor Company Ltd., an automotive spin-off headed by his son. But, they had to shut down the production due to economic crisis caused by World War II.

They got back into operation in the 1950s. Toyota was inspired by successful American manufacturers and studied these models carefully. They then came out with successful models like Land Cruiser and Toyota Corolla which set a trend in the market and gained wide acceptance for their low-cost, fuel-efficiency and reliability.

Today, Toyota has assembly plants and distributors in many countries. Its subsidiaries produce rubber and cork materials, steel, synthetic resins, automatic looms, and cotton and woollen goods.
