Who is known as the Japanese Henry Ford?

Soichiro Honda, the founder of Honda Motor Company is the symbol of resilience. He is known as the Japanese Henry Ford. His journey was not easy; he met with multiple failures, his piston rings were rejected by Toyota, his workshop was bombed, but he was not ready to give up.

Honda grew up watching his father repair bicycles. This sparked his interest in automobiles. Gathering experience as an apprentice at Art Shokai workshop and Hamamatsu technological school, he started with designing racing cars.

He invented a new engine cooling system, as a result of which, his cars did not explode. By 1946, he started making mopeds and after two years, he came up with his first bike fondly named ‘Dream-D Type’. With apt modifications, he released new models and by 1958, Honda became one of the world’s leading motorcycle manufacturers.

After reaping success from motorcycles, he turned to making cars. At the beginning of the 80s, Honda was the third largest producer of cars in Japan. By the end of the decade, it was the third largest in the world.

Honda designed the first engine with a low pollution level; the environment friendly device he installed in Honda Civic was launched in 1975 and quickly gained popularity.
