If spaceship takes that long to reach the nearest star, will we ever get to explore the galaxy?

Someday, maybe. Researchers at NASA’s Johnson Space Center are looking into ways to beat the universal speed limit with a real-life ‘’warp drive.’’ Just like the propulsion system on the Enterprise from Star Trek, this engine would bend the universe around the ship – shrinking space in front of the ship and expanding it behind – to propel the crew to place at faster-than-light speed. Using this drive, a trip to Alpha Centauri would take just a couple of weeks rather than thousands of years. Of course, this real-life warp drive is only on the drawing board for now. The researchers are trying to create a mini-model of how this could work, and they’ve already mocked up a ship, named – you guessed it – the Enterprise.
