Why is Caterina Fake a renowned name?

Caterina Fake is an entrepreneur known for co-founding the Flickr and Hunch websites. The success of these two sites helped her create a niche in the world of technological innovation and investment.

Fake was born on June 13th, 1969 in Pittsburgh to an American father and a Filipino mother. She is a graduate in English literature from Vassar College.

Fake’s career in the web world began when she started working as a lead designer at the web development agency ‘Organic Online’.

In 2001, Fake married Daniel Stewart Butterfield. The following year, the couple created ‘Ludicorp’ in Vancouver, developing the multiplayer online role-playing game ‘Never-ending’. However the attempt was unsuccessful and the duo started working on a new project- Flickr- which in no time became the world’s favourite photo-sharing website.

Fake also worked for three years with Yahoo! after the tech giant acquired Flickr in 2005.

In 2009, ‘Hunch’ was launched by Caterina Fake and Chris Dixon. It was a website that helped in decision making, based on the user’s interests.

Two years after the start, Hunch was acquired by eBay for about 80 million dollars.
