Why is it said that James Gosling changed the phase of IT by the introduction of Java programming language?

Canadian computer scientist James Arthur Gosling is best known to the world as the father of the Java programming language.

Introduced in 1995, Java is a high level programming language developed by Sun Microsystems as a foundation for designing and delivering web content. Its importance is such that applications and websites will not work unless Java is installed in them. A user can download its latest version from the official website of Java. According to Oracle, the company which now owns Sun Microsystems, there are more than 3 billion mobile phones that run this programming language.

It was Gosling who created the original design for Java. Born on May 19th, 1955 in Alberta, Canada, he pursued his BS at the University of Calgary and MA and PhD at the Carnegie Mellon University. After studies, he worked for Sun Microsystems for a period of 26 years.

Gosling has won many awards and recognition for his achievements. This includes The Economist Innovation Award, and the USENIX Lifetime Achievement Award (2002). In 2007, Gosling was made an Officer of the Order of Canada, the country’s second highest civilian honour. In 2015, he won the IEEE John von Neumann Medal.

Gosling was also elected as a foreign associate member by the National Academy of Engineering in the US, considering his contributions.
