Why is Kris Gopalakrishnan an icon in the Indian IT sector?

           Senapathy Gopalakrishnan or Kris Gopalakrishnan is a co-founder and the executive vice chairman of Infosys, the global IT service providing firm.

            Born on April 5th, 1955 in Trivandrum, Kris did his schooling in the Government Model Boys HSS, Thycaud. After graduation, he joined the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and obtained an M. Sc in physics and M. Tech in computer science. His career began at Patni Computers, Mumbai, where he met N.R. Narayana Moorthy, Nandan Nilekani and other founders of Infosys.

     

       After the company was founded in 1981, Gopalakrishnan managed the design, development, and support of information systems for their American clients. He was the head of technical support service as well as the customer service and technology for a few years.

           In 2007, Gopalakrishnan took over as the managing director and CEO of Infosys, moving it to greater heights. In 2014, Gopalakrishnan founded Axilor Ventures, a venture capital platform for young entrepreneurs. He is also the chairman of the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore, and the chief mentor of Startup Village, Kochi. For his outstanding contributions, Gopalakrishnan won the Padma Bhushan in 2011.
