What animals are sharks terrified of?

Orcas, popularly known as Killer Whales. Orcas actively hunt sharks, especially Great Whites, which will abandon traditional seal hunting grounds & flee from them. A pair of Orcas took up residence near False Bay in S. Africa and immediately sightings of Great Whites dropped dramatically.

They are particularly partial to the livers of Great Whites, which can weight up to 600 lbs and have a very high fat and protein content. They know precisely where the liver is located in the shark’s body and often remove it with near surgical precision.

This behaviour has been recorded off the S. African, Australian and California coasts. Attacks are not limited to Great Whites and there is film of Orcas attacking and killing a Tiger shark. They appear to use a number of different techniques. One is to herd the shark and drive it to or near the surface, at which point one of the Orcas will semi-breach and land on top of the shark That’s around 10,000 lbs landing on the shark. Another method is to bit off the shark’s tail or fins or hold the fins wide apart while one removes the liver.

In one instance, a large Great White off California was so terrified, it dived over 1/2 a kilometre deep and fled to Hawaii, 2,500 miles away.
