Cartoon films are made through a combination of graphic art and cinematography. The bases of any cartoon film are “frames”. A frame is the drawing made by an artist of a single stage of a moving object which together make up continuous movement. Each frame differs very minutely from its predecessor. To make the film the frames are individually shot, 24 frame making up a sequence of 1 second. The recording of sound and photography are done separately and then synchronized. When projected at a rate of 24 frames per second the characters in a cartoon film appear to move and talk like real characters. Nowadays computer software is available to make animation possible without the need for drawing individual frames manually.
